it's all happening at Penrose
Following on from the success of our inaugural ‘Sustainable Living Festival’ in September last year, there is much support and enthusiasm for holding another festival this year.
Many of the attractions of last years festival will be back again along with new participants, activities and attractions. There will be another house tour with different houses featuring ‘sustainable principles’. We are aiming to have a greater number of stallholders and information on sustainable building and building products. Once again there will be talks and demonstrations by inspiring people on many things sustainable, music by local musicians, childrens activities and stalls offering local produce, organic and fair-trade products and locally made crafts.
In keeping with the stand made by Bundanoon in rejecting bottled water, you are asked to bring your own containers and cups for drinks. Bulk water will be available.
The festival will be opened this year by Pru Goward who will also be taking part in a panel discussion with three others titled Climate Change- What can we do in our own backyards’. Other highlights include the first baking of sourdough bread in our new woodfired oven and workshops for children on designing a sustainable house.
We look forward to an exciting and informative festival. Hope you can come

special film screening
In Transition: from oil dependency to local resilience 11.30am in the classroom
We are delighted to announce that ‘In Transition’, the fabulous 50 minute-long
documentary, will be screened at the Penrose ustainable Living Festival –
possibly one of the first screenings in Australia!
If you're interested in Transition Towns, but don't know too much about it- this is
a really good introduction. The film is the work of director Emma Goude, with
input from Transition communities around the world. ‘In Transition’ is the perfect
sequel to ‘The Age of Stupid’. It tells the story of the generation that looked peak
oil and climate change square in the face, and responded with creativity,
compassion and genius.
In the film you will see the stories of communities creating their own currencies,
setting up their own pubs, planting trees, growing food. You’ll see local
authorities getting behind their local Transition initiatives, and get a sense of the
scale of this emerging movement. It is a story of hope, and it is a call to action,
and we think you will like it very much. It is also quite funny in places.
